American Pastoral: Philip Roth
22 February 2020,10:30 am - 7 March 2020,12:15 pm£155
In this course we will discuss one of the great works of post-war American fiction, Philip Roth’s American Pastoral. Uncompromising in its exploration of relations between the generations, American Pastoral exposes the dark side of the USA at the apogee of its political and economic power. Set against the backdrop of political radicalism, race riots and the Vietnam War, Roth takes us kicking and screaming through a riot of domestic crises – we want it to end, and we don’t, we are so hooked and enthralled. How does Roth do it? Come along and discover for yourself.
This course runs over 3 weeks on consecutive Saturday mornings. It comes as a package at £155 and this includes weekly resources, and refreshments of tea and cake/cookies in the break.
