Living Room Literature for Teachers redefines INSET for English teaching professionals. There are so many novels that we teach year after year but quite often our ideas become stale and our teaching a little dull. This course provides an opportunity for you to reconnect with those novels, to remind you why they are great, and to take your understanding of and pleasure in the text further.
I will provide the stimulus to exciting discussion, offering contextual and critical background; encouraging you to renew your excitement for the great works of literature that we are so lucky to teach to young people. And not a single plastic chair, desk or student in view; instead I offer you comfortable sofas, a coffee table full of home-made cake, and a silver tabby cat who will ensure we remain on topic.
Do you teach Cambridge Pre-U Mandarin?
If you have spent most of your career teaching a Chinese language, the prospect of teaching literature in translation might seem daunting.
With this in mind, I am offering training days specifically designed to help teachers deliver the literature element (paper 4) of the new Cambridge Pre-U Chinese syllabus. My own grandfather was Chinese (surname of Wah gives it away) so I have what could be described as an innate genealogical curiosity in Chinese literature and culture; I am looking forward to sharing and developing this personal interest with you on my courses.
NB. Cecily, my British Short Hair cat, does not share this heritage: you can’t have everything!
