Description

This short course introduces you to the poetry of Emily Dickinson, one of America’s most distinctive and prolific poets. We will begin by locating Dickinson within her cultural and literary milieu and then move on to consider a selection of her poems—many seemingly in tension with one another—concerned with faith and doubt; death or the unknown; ideas of unconsciousness and creativity. We will also explore the language and structure of her work and the effects of Dickinson’s famously eccentric punctuation. There’ll even be a cake recipe of Dickinson’s in the mix; what more could you ask for? A cat? Well, as it happens …

Date: Tuesdays 15th January – 29th January (10 am – 12.15)
